PSMM Component Styles and Categories

Pencak Silat Mande Muda is comprised of several traditional styles of Pencak Silat.  Over a number of years, the founders of Mande Muda have continually researched and studied Pencak Silat from many sources, and thus developed the system.

Many styles of Pencak Silat are very small and can be learned in less than 1 year.  Mastery of the art then comes after several years of practice.  Often masters of Pencak Silat combined lessons from more than style to develop their own methods.  In Mande Muda, several styles were used in part to complete a system that addresses many ranges and scenarios of fighting.

In Indonesia, many styles have the same name, but look very different because they have evolved and changed as they are passed from teacher to student.  The styles, which comprise Mande Muda are no different.  Below are most of the styles that have influenced PSMM with a brief description of each.  These styles are described as they are used in Mande Muda.

Primary Styles

Cimande - Cimande is one of the most traditional and oldest styles of Pencak Silat in West Java.  Although old, Cimande is still highly respected. The founder of Cimande is a famous fighter named Bah (grandfather) Kahir.  Cimande techniques are known to destroy an attacker's arms. Cimande villiage is mostly well known for its healers who use an amazing liniment known only as balur (oil).
